Reflexology

Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points on the feet. Practitioners believe that applying pressure to these reflex areas can promote a person’s general health in the corresponding organs through energetic pathways. Although reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders, millions of people around the world use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like anxiety, asthma, cancer treatment, diabetes, headaches, PMS, Sinusitis.

Reflexology for pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time of great hormonal changes and this often stirs up emotions such as fear and apprehension. Physical and emotional support from a specialist reflexologist during this time can provide nurture and relaxation. Generally any treatment should not commence until after the 1st trimester when the new life is well established in the womb.

Many common pregnancy symptoms can be alleviated with reflexology. These include;

  • Oedema
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Headaches
  • Constipation
  • Haemorrhoids
  • High blood pressure (not suitable for pre eclampsia or eclampsia)
  • Tiredness
  • Morning sickness
  • Heartburn
  • Backache
  • Breathlessness
  • Sleeplessness

Reflexology for labour

The key hormone for the onset and development of labour is oxytocin. The first secretion comes from the baby’s pituitary gland and when this crosses the placenta it activates the mother’s pituitary to respond by producing more. The mother’s oxytocin then progresses contractions and labour. Reflexology during this phase can help to maintain the mother’s secretions and so allow labour to progress naturally and without chemical or physical intervention. We recommend treatments from the 38th week onwards to help facilitate labour.

Reflexology for Fertility

Some points on the foot are associated with a woman’s egg production and by manipulating these areas reflexologists claim they can correct the imbalances which can hamper pregnancy.

The term infertility is used if conception hasn’t occurred naturally after 12 months of trying for a baby. Often there is no medical reason for this, however commonly it is a result of an imbalance in the body. This can be hormonal or circumstantial due to modern day lifestyle, such as long working hours, poor diet, stress or anxiety, all of which impact on our health and affect our body’s natural equilibrium. Fertility Reflexology promotes balance and encourages your body’s system to function efficiently.
