Clinical Massage Therapy
This is concerned with the direct manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. Persistently or pathologically shortened muscle tissue in the body is muscle tissue that has shortened most likely for defensive reasons such as over-load, repetitive use or excessive stretch. This can result in them being ineffective and causing pain.
With the skills and experience I have developed over the last 10 years i am able to manipulate these shortened soft tissues and attempt to restore their natural, pain free function through touch, while keeping the whole client in mind.
After a brief consultation with the client, I will tailor the treatment to meet their individual needs. Where appropriate I will use techniques which include, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy and soft tissue release. The treatment will be enhanced with the use of aromatherapy oils which are extracted from natural sources such as plants, flowers and herbs and have many therapeutic benefits.
Trigger Point Therapy
A trigger point is simply a small contracted knot in muscle tissue. It affects a muscle by keeping it both tight and weak, this in turn maintains a hard contraction on the muscle fibres around the trigger point. Triggers points typically send pain to another area, known as referred pain. This is because the tight bands of muscle fibre hold constant tension on the muscle attachments often producing pain in adjacent joints or tissues. The referred pain can cause difficulty in treating the source of the problem, due to a long standing assumption that the cause of pain is always found at its source.
This is often incorrect, because of the knowledge of trigger points and their predictable pain patterns we are able to treat many painful conditions using trigger point therapy, which is a powerful and effective massage technique! It can be used to treat headaches, neck and jaw pain, low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, tennis elbow, joint pain, ligament injury, symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and many other painful conditions.
Pregnancy is a time of both physical and emotional change for any expectant mother. Due to this the mother will experience increased stress, which, if left untreated can have a negative impact on the pregnancy. Learning to relax is an integral part of any pregnancy plan. It has been proven that relaxation has positive results for both mother and baby and increases the chance of a positive birth experience. Professional pregnancy massage will provide much needed comfort, support and relaxation for both mother and baby.
- pain relief
- a feeling of well being
- improves blood circulation
- assists with digestion and elimination of toxins
- pumps the lymphatic system which helps fight infection
- generally increases our health and reduces stress
A professional pregnancy massage will take into consideration how you feel both emotionally and physically. Special positions and techniques for your comfort and safety during the massage are our priority.
Pregnancy Aromatherapy Massage
The safe and careful use of aromatic essential oils combined with specialist massage techniques can minimize the various discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, backache, swollen legs and ankles. Massage with essential oils will give tremendous relief from pain and help to tone the muscles that are carrying the increasing load. Mild oedema, or puffiness of the ankles can be effectively relieved by massage of the legs with essential oils.
While the use of aromatherapy is highly recommended during pregnancy, it is important to consult a professional aromatherapist for advise on what oils are safe to use!!!
Hot Stonefusion Massage
This wonderfully relaxing massage treatment combines luxury with therapy! Hot soothing stones instantly heat up and relax the muscles making the body more responsive to the specialist and dynamic massage techniques.
Indian Head Massage
A deeply relaxing treatment which focuses on the head, neck and face, the areas where tension tends to accumulate. Using aromatic oils to enhance the work on these sensitive areas indian head massage is very effective for treating stress, headaches, migraines, eyestrain and tension, in particular that are caused by muscular tension in the neck and shoulders.
Tui Na Massage
Tui na massage is an ancient Chinese healing art which is different to many other types of massage. The therapist uses finger pressure, stretching and leverage to stimulate the energy channels and acupressure points in the body. It is an effective treatment for musculo-skeletal problems, such as low back pain and frozen shoulder. It is also successful for treating digestive problems, insomnia, stress, encouraging relaxation and for stimulating the body’s organs through special points, helping to prevent illness and improve both mental and physical vitality.
