Sports Massage

Sports massage was developed to help athletes perform optimally in their chosen sport. However, sports massage is not just for athletes. It can be incorporated into a regular routine to alleviate tension in muscles, reduce chronic pain, identify muscle weaknesses, and realign muscular imbalances, which can be caused by everyday life, poor posture, overuse, and repetitive strain. Different techniques: resisted stretching, trigger point (often associated with referred pain – pain not at source) and muscle energy release are used, depending on what Mandy finds during assessment and massage. Muscular asymmetry in the body associated with areas of pain and muscular tightness can be identified,

Muscles are massaged and manipulated deeply to improve muscle length and elasticity, release tension, re-energise tired muscles, improve joint mobility and increase the range of movement of muscles, improve circulation and healing. Taking care of muscles and other soft tissues can reduce acute and chronic pain and help prevent injury.

Regular sports massage is recommended.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage has been around a very long time. It uses slow strokes with firm pressure to manipulate the deeper layers of muscle and surrounding fascia (connective tissue) to encourage muscle lengthening, relaxation and lymphatic drainage. Trigger point therapy and assisted stretching can be incorporated. The massage will work along the length of the muscle fibres but also across the fibres. It can be used to focus on persistent aches, knots or scar tissue that needs breaking down. During the massage Mandy uses stretches and acupressure to relieve tension, particularly useful around the neck and shoulders. The whole body is usually massaged to enhance musculoskeletal balance and well being. The deep tissue manipulation boosts circulation, enhancing healing and the body’s natural detoxification processes. It can be a deeply relaxing massage, relieving tension, reducing blood pressure and promoting sleep, rebalancing the body and mind.

Myofascial Release massage

A whole body treatment that recognises that tightness and restrictions in one area of the body can use compensatory patterns which affect the whole structure, resulting in postural changes, discomfort and lack of flexibility. Each session works on unwinding tight fascia in order to re-educate and bring about improved posture, flexibility and mobility

TMJ Massage therapy

TMJD stands for Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction. The temporomandibular joint is the medical name given to one of the most well-used joints in the human body – the Jaw Joint.

TMJ occurs when the lower jaw becomes displaced from its correct position and dislocates. This can be caused by trauma to the mouth, a misaligned bite, or persistent teeth grinding over a long period of time.

If the TMJ becomes dysfunctional and starts to wear on the articulating surfaces of the joint, the area becomes inflamed and painful. This is often accompanied by a loud clicking sound, an inability to open the mouth wide and muscular tension in the area. All of these symptoms can in some cases lead to migraines and chronic pain.

We will focus on the structures and muscles associated with the jaw joint. By using various massage techniques, stretches, and even treating the muscles inside the mouth, this therapy can help to reduce jaw pain, headaches, and relieve symptoms of head fuzziness.

Even if you don’t have diagnosed TMJD, this type of treatment can be very beneficial for those who suffer from upper neck pain, facial aches, headaches and migraines.
